Hi, I Am Nikita Banks, LCSW

Nikita Banks, LCSW

From a little girl running away from her own trauma, to boldly owning my story and using it to heal others. I have worked tirelessly over the last 8 years, and I have come a mighty long way.

I have had to fight my way out of depression, tooth and nail. I convinced myself that I  believed in me even when I didn’t. With the help of a therapist I pushed through even when I struggled. I swallowed my fear and did it anyway.

And now I have used my platform to bring others along.  With the launch of my private practice and the amplification of other black therapist who like myself just want to do the necessary work to heal our community, our hard work has not gone unnoticed.

I was awarded my Masters in Social Work from NYU Silver School of Social Work.  Field Advisor for Columbia University’s School of Social Work, following being awarded the certificate Seminar in Field Instruction.  In 2019, Banks was awarded Congressional Research Institute for Social Work and Policy (CRISP) Outstanding Individual in Business, and in 2020-2022 she was elected Vice President and Chair of Diversity for the New York State Chapter of NASW.

I  will lead the charge to help social workers in NYS, and beyond live up to our code of ethics. And continue to provide quality care to my clients.

Changing The Face of Mental Wellness

Take a look at some of our journey...

PMW Private Practice

October 2016 Seeing the necessity for culturally competent care and a lack of cultural diversity in the field of clinical social work. After obtaining clinical licensure I launched my multi-state practice to provide Black clients the choice of having a therapeutic environment strengthened by a total cultural experience. Now seeing clients in New York, New Jersey and Georgia.

Finding Happy Seven Steps To Relationships That Will Not Steal Your Joy

October 2018 Created as a companion to the therapeutic experience, Finding Happy is a guided journal that allows clients to do the intimate work of self exploration while acquiring the necessary skills to build intentional relationships, with the focus on health and happiness. We assume making friends, and genuine connections should come easy but the books helps us delve into what we really want, what we need from our friendships and how to get them.

Vice President NASW-NYS
Chair of Diversity & Inclusion

June 2020 All eyes were on NYS, the epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic. The role of social workers are paramount as we report to the frontlines to help the public and fellow health care workers cope with the trauma that is our new normal. New Yorkers will have to rebuild the economy all the while prioritizing both health and safety. Mental health will play a significant part. I will lead the charge to help social workers in NYS, and beyond live up to our code of ethics. I look forward to contributing in this space to help advance our profession in the right direction.
